This dedicated effort involved transporting the 40′ container from South Carolina, through the Savannah and Port of Spain ports, and ultimately to Poonah, Trinidad, all in time for the team’s arrival. The success of this endeavor hinged on continuous communication and unwavering determination.
Furthermore, the generosity of Cornerstone Kitchens made a significant impact by providing a crucial donation that enabled the home to acquire essential items, including toilets. Their contribution further underscores the collective spirit of support behind this meaningful cause.
Local Community Involvement in Trinidad
Sandy Joy, the dedicated Director of Operation Smile, has been an inspiring force in rallying local communities and volunteers from nearby churches this year to ensure the successful renovation. Sandy, along with her sister, embarked on a journey to the States this past February to attend the Men & Women of Action Rally, where they passionately presented this project. Together, they rolled up their sleeves and, with unwavering commitment, made sure things were ready for the team in June. Sandy’s leadership and the collaborative spirit she fostered among local volunteers will continue to ensure things progress at this home.
A Transformational Journey Begins
In the third week of June 2023, Patton Butts and his team arrived in Poonah, ready to put their plans into action. They swiftly assembled the beds, installed the cabinets and sinks, and prepared the homes to welcome the new children. Their arrival marked the beginning of a transformative journey for these orphans, who would now have access to improved living conditions, warmth, and hope for a brighter future.
