In the heart of the bustling inner city, where the rhythm of life is both vibrant and challenging, one home stands out as a beacon of safety and security for abused, abandoned, and orphaned children. The John E. Halgrim Orphanage (JEHO) in Nairobi, Kenya recently took a bold step to enhance the safety measures within its premises.
As the community around JEHO grappled with the unfortunate rise in crime, the home directors recognized the need for proactive measures to ensure the well-being of the children under their care. Their response was both strategic and innovative – extending balcony railings to the ceiling (pictured left). This decision showcases the commitment of the directors to provide a sanctuary for the children they serve.
The total cost for this construction endeavor was 164,650 Kenyan schillings, which translates to $1240. This initiative was made possible through the support of generous donors, like you, who believe in the mission of Haven of Hope International. Your contributions played a pivotal role in implementing the necessary changes to fortify the home’s security infrastructure.
The extended balcony railings not only act as a physical deterrent to potential intruders but also provide a psychological reassurance to the children and staff. The added height and strength of the railings create a sense of security, allowing the residents to live, play, and learn in an environment where they can flourish without fear. JEHO Safe Home is more than just an orphanage; it’s a community that cares deeply about the well-being of the children. By taking proactive measures to address the challenges posed by the high crime rates in the area, JEHO has reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe and nurturing space for children in need.
We, at Haven of Hope International, extend our deepest gratitude to those who made this possible. Thanks to your ongoing support, this inner-city orphanage continues to be a beacon of hope and safety, proving that with collective effort, we can create havens even amid adversity.
