Celebrating Two Years of Hope: Refugio de Vida’s Journey in Pucallpa, Peru

Two years ago, the newly finished rooms at Refugio de Vida stood quiet—beds waiting, walls echoing with anticipation for the laughter and life that would one day fill them. Today, those same rooms are alive with the joy, energy, and dreams of 19 children who now call this place home.

What was once empty cottages have now become a refuge of rescue and restoration. During our recent visit marking the 2nd Anniversary Trip, we were overwhelmed by the transformation. Each child’s smile told a story of redemption. The cafeteria, cottages, Hope Center (Pennsylvania Team – Dean Ramsey), church, and new playground (RiverLife Team – Jason Jeter) reflected the faith and dedication that built this haven in one of the more remote regions of Peru.

A Miracle in the Making

In this community where opportunities are scarce and the future once seemed uncertain for these young girls; Refugio de Vida has become a miracle of hope. Here, abandoned, abused, and exploited girls—many of whom had no prospect of safety, education, or belonging—are now thriving.

What began as a whisper of faith has become a chorus of purpose. With care grounded in love, each child is receiving not only food and shelter but also education, therapy, and discipleship. They are learning to dream again—and to believe that those dreams can come true.

Empowering Dreams

At Refugio de Vida, the transformation is not physical, spiritual and emotional. The girls are no longer defined by their past; they are being empowered to pursue their future. Their songs, studies, and smiles are living proof that hope, when nurtured, changes everything.

As we celebrate this milestone, we are reminded that hope truly builds homes—and those homes build futures.
