In the Kampala region of Uganda, near Mende, the story of Kabagambe Childcare Foundation is a beautiful reminder that God often uses someone’s deepest pain to become a pathway of healing for others.
Kabagambe Childcare Foundation was founded by Alex Kabagambe, a man who understands the journey of vulnerable children because he once walked that road himself. Alex grew up as an orphan and experienced the harsh realities that too many children in Uganda still face—hunger, homelessness, sickness, neglect, and the fear of being alone in the world. But his story did not end in survival. Through the kindness of believers, access to care, and the opportunity for education, Alex discovered hope. Today, he is offering that same hope to children who need safety, love, and a future.
Kabagambe is a Christ-centered home caring for 24 children in a rural setting outside Kampala. What began as Alex opening his heart and home to children in need has grown into a permanent place of belonging. Here, children are not simply housed—they are known, nurtured, discipled, and encouraged to believe that their lives matter. Haven of Hope International is honored to partner with Kabagambe as part of a restorative, family-centered model of care built around HOHI’s Four Pillars of Purpose: Rescue, Love, Restore, and Equip.
Emma’s Echo (An HOHI Strategic Partner) has walked alongside Kabagambe Childcare Foundation in ministry since early 2023. Land was purchased and a home was built for the KCF family. In 2024, the children moved into their new home, began making it their own, and continued developing gardens and livestock to help the home grow toward greater self-sufficiency. Their 2025 goals include sending each child to school, expanding food sustainability through gardening and livestock, and blessing the surrounding community.
Education is one of the greatest doors of hope for children who have come from hard places. Many vulnerable children arrive in care already behind academically because survival has taken priority over learning. When school fees, supplies, uniforms, tutoring, and study support are missing, a child’s future can begin to feel impossible. But at Kabagambe, that story is changing. Every child at Kabagambe is sponsored to attend school—a powerful step toward breaking cycles of poverty and opening new horizons of opportunity.
Now, Haven of Hope International is helping dream toward the next step: The Learning Lab Initiative. This dedicated program would provide educational resources, technology, tutoring support, and a quiet environment where children can study, read, practice skills, and receive the academic help they need to succeed.
A Learning Lab is more than equipment. It is a message to every child: You are worth investing in. Your future matters. God has a plan for your life.
