Hope and Healing at JEHO

Our September visit to JEHO Orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya, was filled with gratitude, growth, and glimpses of God’s faithfulness. From the moment we stepped through the gates, the warm and welcoming atmosphere spoke volumes. The staff and children interacted with ease, laughter echoing through the hallways—a reflection of healing and stability that continues to deepen each year.

We saw remarkable progress in the children.

More children were engaged in daily activities, showing confidence in their talents and joy in their routines. They were bustling with energy, with caregivers attentive and encouraging. While space and some water and plumbing issues remain a challenge. Clearly even with limited space, the children play and express themselves—their spirits remain unbounded.

The staff’s devotion is the heartbeat of JEHO.

Caregivers serve with love and commitment, investing in both emotional and spiritual care. They continue to benefit from Haven of Hope’s training and support. As this is being written, seven staff members are treated to a well-deserved respite trip to Mombasa, a rare blessing. These moments of rest renew their strength to continue this vital work. One of the staff was allowed to visit home for the first time in five years.

Education remains a top priority.

We were able to introduce the staff and residents to Kahn Academy, a free resource for tutoring. Transition students now receive mentorship and laptops through the Futures of Hope Grants, helping prepare them for higher education and adult independence. One of HOHI’s strategic partners, Diana Achieng is also guiding each youth through a “GPS Journey—God’s Plan for Success,” a life-planning tool introduced by Haven of Hope ensuring that each child learns to dream and plan with purpose.

While the home’s sleeping quarters are a bit tight and food supplies still depend heavily on community donations, with limited access to protein. Yet, even with modest means, the meals are prepared lovingly and shared joyfully.
Our visit coincided with a Sunday service that overflowed with worship and connection. Pastor Dean Ramsey’s team from Pennsylvania joined us in ministry, and the children’s excitement was unmistakable. They were especially touched by Isaac’s simple, heartfelt message. And JEHO director Peter stated recently that the message by John about lifting our hands still resonates. He spoke of Alice’s compassion as she comforted and encouraged his co-director Miriam.

Despite an incident in which local unrest momentarily threatened the home, God’s protection prevailed—thanks to the quick response of Amos, the night guard, and local police.

JEHO continues to shine as a ray of hope in Embakasi Pipeline District of Nairobi.

As we look forward to continuing to inspire these children to dream, we are reminded that every act of love and support helps these children flourish—in body, mind, and spirit. You can be part of the miracle
