Honoring Hope Hero: Dave Russ

At Haven of Hope International, we are blessed with champions who go above and beyond to ensure that orphaned and vulnerable children experience love, dignity, and opportunity. One of those champions is Dave Russ—Hope Hero, Ambassador for the Nation of Orphans, and dedicated member of our Board of Influence.

While many may know Dave as the “donut man” or the sponsor who treats the children in Bolivia to fun field trips, his impact stretches far beyond sweet treats and smiles. Dave has been instrumental in transforming our Boys Campus in Bolivia, helping to create a safe and vibrant place where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

A Lasting Legacy of Love

  • Empowering Children Through Choice: Dave rewards perseverance in studies by taking the children on shopping trips—an unforgettable experience for many, as it’s often the first time they’ve ever chosen something new for themselves.
  • Creating Spaces to Play and Dream: Thanks to his leadership and generosity, the Boys Campus now has beautifully landscaped grounds, a soccer field, and volleyball courts where kids can build friendships, teamwork, and confidence.
  • Meeting Critical Needs: Dave provided a much-needed 20-passenger bus, allowing the campus to safely transport children to school, church, and activities—meeting a long overdue need for a growing family of hope.
  • Expanding Hope Beyond Borders: His heart for children doesn’t stop in Bolivia. Currently, Dave is also helping to build a volleyball court at our campus in Peru, continuing to invest in the futures of orphaned children across Latin America.

Celebrating Soccer at the Joe Morici Campus

There’s something special about a freshly marked soccer field—the smell of the turf, the excitement in the air, and the promise of new beginnings. At the Joe Morici Campus in Bolivia, that promise came to life with a beautiful new soccer field, thanks to the generous support and hard work of longtime friend and volunteer, Dave Russ.

Dave didn’t just lend a hand—he put the finishing touches on the field himself, ensuring everything was ready for a day of celebration. During the inauguration, local traditions took center stage. The flag of Santa Cruz flew proudly, and the children enjoyed traditional pastries in honor of Santa Cruz’s anniversary month. Dave even posed with the youngest winners from the field’s first set of matches—beaming kids who now have a space to grow, play, and thrive.

This new soccer field is more than a playground. It’s also a source of sustainability for the campus, now rented out for local parties and gatherings. This not only strengthens the children’s opportunities but also connects Refugio de Esperanza with the broader community in meaningful ways.

And thanks to Dave’s efforts—and the generosity of supporters like him—hope keeps growing stronger at the Joe Morici Campus.
