In Kawempe, near Kampala, Uganda, Somebody Cares Africa is more than a safe place for children—it is a testimony of what happens when compassion becomes action. Under the leadership of Apostle Prince Chemonges and the ministry of Cross Pointe International Ministries, children who have faced hardship, instability, and loss are being surrounded with love, faith, structure, and hope.
This year, Haven of Hope International is placing a special emphasis on the Learning Lab Initiative because many children entering care arrive with serious educational gaps. Some have missed months or even years of consistent schooling. Others have never had access to proper tutoring, reading materials, technology, or a quiet space where they can focus and learn. For children who have experienced trauma, poverty, neglect, or displacement, education is often one of the first areas to suffer—but it can also become one of the most powerful tools for restoration.
A Learning Lab at Somebody Cares Africa would provide more than computers and school supplies. It would create a dedicated environment where children can catch up academically, discover their strengths, and begin to believe in their future again. Equipped with tablets, laptops, educational resources, internet access, tutoring support, and a quiet study space, the Learning Lab would help children move from frustration to confidence.
For many children from hard places, learning is not simply about sitting in a classroom. A child must first feel safe. They must know that someone believes in them. They need patient adults who understand that poor school performance is often connected to trauma, loss, instability, and a lack of opportunity—not a lack of ability. When children are given the right support, their potential begins to rise.
That is why HOHI believes the Learning Lab Initiative is such an important next step. It helps meet children where they are academically while also pointing them toward who God created them to become. A child who once felt forgotten can begin to see a future filled with purpose. A child who struggled to read can begin to enjoy learning. A child who believed they were behind can begin to experience progress, one lesson at a time.
Somebody Cares Africa is already making a tremendous impact by providing care, discipleship, and community connection through their foster care style program. A Learning Lab would strengthen that work by giving caregivers and leaders practical tools to help children succeed in school and in life. It would also support the broader mission of preparing children not only to survive their circumstances, but to thrive beyond them.
At Haven of Hope International, we believe education is part of restoration. Every book opened, every skill learned, every tutoring session, and every word of encouragement becomes a seed of hope.
Together, we can help Somebody Cares Africa create a space where children are not defined by what they have lacked, but empowered by what God has placed within them. One child, one lesson, one breakthrough at a time—the future is being restored.
