At Watu wa Maana Children’s Home, their mission has always been to transform the lives of vulnerable youth — including street children, orphans, and children from disadvantaged backgrounds — through holistic care, education, and rehabilitation. They work to equip every child with the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to lead productive and self-sufficient lives.
In today’s digital era, technology is not a luxury — it’s a necessity. Yet, for a long time, their children lacked the computer resources needed to keep up with the demands of modern education and to prepare for future careers. Thanks to the generosity our Hope Heroes—Krista and Brook Carey—that gap has now been closed.
From Challenge to Change
Before this gift of brand new laptops, many of the Watu children had little or no access to laptops. This limited their ability to:
- Participate in online learning programs.
- Conduct research for school assignments.
- Explore valuable skills such as coding and digital literacy.
Their staff also faced operational delays, with record-keeping and reporting taking far more time than necessary. Without the proper technology, both learning and administration were falling short of their full potential. Now, the picture is completely different.
The Impact of Laptops
Enhanced Educational Opportunities
- Children now access online learning platforms, research tools, and digital educational resources with ease.
- Assignments and e-learning projects are completed faster and with greater quality.
- Students are engaging in coding lessons, Microsoft Office training, and other practical IT programs that prepare them for higher education and future careers.
Empowering Digital Skills for the Future
- Children are developing essential computer literacy that will give them an edge in the modern job market.
- They are gaining hands-on experience with research methods, data analysis, and creative applications.
- More students are participating in online learning initiatives and competitions.
Results We’re Already Seeing
Since introducing the laptops, we have witnessed:
- Improved academic performance, with students submitting higher-quality assignments.
- Greater technological competence, giving children confidence when tackling new challenges.
- Excitement and motivation among the children as they explore new digital tools.
This achievement was only possible because of the generosity and belief of our supporters. You didn’t just give them laptops — you gave the Watu children the ability to dream bigger, learn better, and prepare for brighter futures.
